No doubt, seventy disposed of most outstanding guitarists. One of them who impressed me with his unusual and original access in playing guitar is Jeff Beck. He always makes things different and unexpected, suprising us with excellent paces of vinyl. Unavoidable, he left deep impression on me, a young guitarist who searched for contemporary guitar expression.
Although I was member in a several rock & roll groups, making my own project was always the basic idea, so in the end I decide to make my independent studio (D&B manufacture). The first and only reason why I'm going on my own is my intention to create something new, which means to possess sufficient work space to experiment without overloading and unlimited possibillity for inspiration.
„Guitarland“ is not a fluke, this project transfuses all my creative energy and invention. I tried to make a modern sound and arrangement, unloaded of vain guitar phrases. The invitable prose and macedonian climate are often inspiration of mine, starting with „Pink glasses“ which inspiration is found in our contemporary living, via dedicated composition of magic ancient town Ohrid, to finish with „Bizant rhapsody“, theme which is closely related with Macedonian history.
I hope that my music will never leave you indifferent.
Dimitar Bozikov - Guitarland
What it takes to make a great record, especially if it's a debut album? Probably a lot of things, but you should count on having a plenty of resources in one's mind and ability to use most of them at the right time, know-how capability and, of course, enough talent to pull everything together. Well, Dimitar Bozikov happens to be one of that rare breed on today's contemporary scene and surely deserves as much wider exposure as possible. Macedonia is well known for its rich musical heritage and talented musicians and Dimitar has probably the best export potential of them all, and “Guitarland”, if there's any justice in music world, should open a lot of doors for him. This is expertly executed instrumental music with brilliant skill of composer and performer whose future seems bright and I'd like to quote my friend, great organ player Jon Hammond who said: ”The fingers are the singers”!
Ten songs of rich texture pay homage to his musical inspirations of the past and present, his affection to Macedonian folklore is obvious and it only takes one listening of this album and you will keep coming back haunted with great songs that sometimes defy description. Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson and guys of that caliber come to mind occasionally with their sound and delicate tone structure, but everything else is pure Dimitar sound, be it acoustic or electric, it works exceptionally well in various arrangement settings throughout the album. Sometimes plain and simple, sometimes deep and mysterious, his songs project an atmospheric glaze that glistens with an organic yet somehow transcendent luster. Dimitar's musical routes are inspiring and he freely explores them with verve and passion of a pilgrim, and you cannot help but admire his way of doing so. “Guitarland” is a great collection of instrumental, introspective songs whose essence clearly presents a musician who knows where he's bound and I hope that this album will reap the reward of wider recognition in the near future…
